Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. As the data exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH an ideal means of managing a hosting account. The commands which can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the alternatives are limited since you'll not have root access to the web server, so you could only create/move/delete files, create and unpack archives, import and export databases, etc. They are all actions that are performed in the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or just a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.
SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting
If you have a cloud hosting account with our company and you would like to handle your content remotely via SSH, you can easily get SSH access to the account through your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not offer this feature as standard, you may add it with a few clicks from the Upgrades menu. Inside the SSH section of the Control Panel, you'll see the host, the port number and the username which you should use when you connect to the account. You can even choose what password you would want to use, given that it does not have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared a lot of Help articles in which you can find all of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting package, plus examples of how they are used. Additionally, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you'll be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection using a standard client like FileZilla, for instance.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers
You'll be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH no matter which package you choose when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is provided by default, while with others, it may be added as an extra upgrade for as long as you need it. You'll discover the necessary login information inside the Hepsia Control Panel, supplied with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You will be able to pick the password that you'll use and if you want to, you could change it on a regular basis with a couple of mouse clicks for even higher security. You shall be able to see all the commands that you can use in advance, since we have listed them along with examples of how they are used to perform a specific task. As soon as SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is activated, you will be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in VPS Servers
All our VPS server plans feature SSH access as standard, so you won't have to include any upgrades or activate anything - the second the server is set up and you receive its login information, you'll be able to connect through its main IP address and the login credentials which you have selected through the signup procedure. Because the VPS accounts come with full root-level access, there are no restrictions with regards to the commands that you can run. Your server shall be isolated from the others on the physical machine, so you will be able to manage more or less everything via a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. In this way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any apps which you install in a fast and safe way.
